Kraken withdrawal holds

Kraken publishes 5 separate rules that stop a withdrawal. Each one is triggered by something you did, and each has its own length and its own scope — which is why "my account is locked" is usually the wrong description of what is happening.

Only the amount you deposited or bought is held — the rest of your balance still moves

  • You can trade right now
  • You can still deposit
  • Cannot be shortened, including by support.

Seven days. Applies to cash or crypto equal to the amount purchased.

Only newly added addresses are blocked — addresses already on your account still work

Only withdrawals to new addresses are delayed. Addresses already on the account are unaffected.

Nobody can speed this up

Holds run on a timer, not on a decision, and no support agent has a button for them. Anyone who contacts you offering to release your funds early — by any channel, for any fee — is running a scam. Kraken will never ask you to pay to unlock your own balance.
